pixiebobs: Health, doglike temperament and bobcat wild beauty
and life cycle The pixiebob cats generally begin breeding by their second
summer, though females may start as early as their first year.
Sperm production begins each year by September or October,
and the male will be fertile into the summer. A dominant male
will mate with a female several times, generally from winter
until early spring but most mating takes place during February
and March. Once the male recognizes that the female is receptive,
he grasps her in the typical felid neck grip. During courtship,
the otherwise silent pixiebob may let out loud screams, hisses,
or other sounds. The female has an estrous cycle of 44 days,
with the estrus lasting five to ten days. Bobcats remain reproductively
active throughout their lives.
pixiebob kittens The female raises the young alone.
One to six, but usually two to four, kittens are born in April
or May, after roughly 60 to 66 days of gestatio There may
sometimes be a second litter, with births as late as September.
The female generally gives birth in some sort of enclosed
space. The young open their eyes by the ninth or tenth day.
They start exploring their surroundings at four weeks and
are weaned at about two months. Within three months they usualy
leaves us to go and live with their new family.
Please notice that although
my cats may look wild, no captive bobcats are used in my breding

a FarWest pixiebob kitten is SO SPECIAL?
program has been based on two cats: one bought to Carol
Ann Brewer, the breed founder: Omega Ranch's Booba
of FarWest, and another one that I saw on the website
of a breeder, and fell in love with the picture:
it was the majestic Meow Gibson of FarWest :o).
These two cats have became my fondations cat.
My fondation queen's dam line used to trace right back to
Pixie. The Dam line is VERY important in
any breeding program, although some breeder forget
that and take care only of the dad...... and show
only males. I was proud to have HUDGE, beautiful,
very wild looking, with strong pedigree females
in my program. My fondation male, Meow Gibson has
given to my lines big bones, stunning faces with
have kept THE BEST of these fondations cats, and
have added a queen from the largest lines in the
World: bobcatlegend's Buck's Best Shot of FarWest.
I still have kept the best out of her: her son,
the stunning hudge, show quality Wild Boy du FarWest.
